This is a Ruck event to honor our Veterans, the Brave. Rucking is simply walking with a weighted backpack, like the marches that are such an integral part of military training. You will don your backpacks and march in Honor of, or in Memory of, a veteran in your life. Your race bib will have a blank line on it for you to write in the name of the Veteran whom you are walking in Honor or in Memory of.
You will select between the one-mile, five-mile, or ten-mile March or a team category. You can choose any type of weight to put in the pack, but we would like to suggest items to be donated to our homeless community. Some items to consider are hygiene essentials, sunscreen, bug spray, minor first aid supplies, ready to eat meals/food with flip tops, or even bottles of Gatorade. We provide the aforementioned items to the homeless on the second Saturday of every month identified as the “Operation: Stand Down”. This ruck event can be classified as an endurance event, a walk, or a fitness event but we like to think of it as an opportunity to Honor our Brave by walking a mile--or ten--in their boots.
The ten-mile category is the competitive category. If you choose to compete, you must weigh in with a minimum of 25lbs in the backpack. If a child chooses to compete, the weight is only 10lbs.
Teams can consist of no less than four and no more than ten people who register as a team. The team captain is the only one who needs to register; he/she must list all team member's full name, email address and a t-shirt size under the captain's registration. Please ensure each team member has read and agrees to the waiver statement, as well as pack the recommended items for the homeless community (listed below). As with our brave service men and women, there is no man left behind. You will start as a team, and you must finish as a team with all members accounted for. If the team is competing, the team must share an additional 25lb weight (of their own design) that will be carried by the team throughout the March.
Competition categories include first and second place for 5-mile & 10-mile, first and second place in Teams, first and second place for kids, most weight overall, and most weight overall for a Team.
Registration includes a T-shirt, medal, race bib, and a meal ticket for the Mess Hall (meal provided same day as event). Packet Pick up will take place from 5:00pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, May 17, 2024 at the same location as event (City View ISD Building, 1600 A City View Dr, Wichita Falls, 76306). If you have not registered, there will be an additional $5 cost to register at the event. T-shirt sizes and availability cannot be guaranteed if you register later than April 27, 2024. The Mess Hall meal tickets are available at the event to non-registrants for $10 adults, $5 children 3-12 years of age and children under 3 will be able to eat free.

As you know, these last 6 months have been busy and filled with blessings and we couldn't have done it without you. But, we want to keep that momentum rolling all the way up until those doors open! For Texoma Gives this year we have set our goal to have three rooms sponsored - that will be three rooms covered to provide for a homeless veteran and safe and comfortable place to call home while they put their life back together and regain their independence. To sponsor a room is $5000 and this can be done by an individual, a family, or an organization. The sponsor will help design the room, can help with the repairs and setup of the room, and will have a plaque outside the door designation the sponsor of the room.
