HOW TO HELP

As with any nonprofit organization, our success depends on community involvement.  Without you, Base Camp Lindsey is just a good idea that never got the doors open.  We need our community to join the Mission to #EndVeteranHomelessness in North Texas.  Whether you are donating,  volunteering on a work day or serving on a committee, the involvement of our community is crucial to the success of the Mission.

Work Day Volunteers

Lots of Variety!

Our work day volunteers can participate in a variety of projects, each one vital in its own way.  From painting to woodwork, mowing the grass, or participating in the actual construction inside Base Camp Lindsey each task is critical to the goal of opening the doors of this facility.  Individuals or large groups can sign up to participate in a work day by completing the volunteer form below.

Committee Volunteers

Want to delve deeper into the Mission?  We need volunteers to form our committees and do the important work of actually bringing Base Camp Lindsey to life.  Current committees needing volunteers are the Street Outreach Team, Marketing and Events, Building, and Volunteer Management.  Once Construction has advanced to the point of scheduling an opening day we will also need a Task Force for getting the building operational and hiring staff.  As you can imagine, these are vital to the success of Base Camp Lindsey and requires individuals with a passion for our Veterans, time to commit to the Mission, and the determination to see it through.  If this sounds like you, let us know!

Are you on the Team?

BCL OUTREACH TEAM

Our Street Outreach team members are the boots on the ground for Base Camp Lindsey.  They identify and reach out to Veterans in need, help provide transportation to appointments, identify resources and services available, and be the point of contact with that Veteran.  These team members have a heart for helping others, a willingness to take the time to help someone in need, and knowledge of community resources.

DONATIONS

Construction costs are ongoing for Base Camp Lindsey.  We have currently spent $203,000 on the facility before construction has even started.  Our current budget is at $2.3 million to take the building from where it is now to being able to open the doors to our Veterans.  The structure of the building is solid, but all of our mechanical systems need to be completely replaced and they all require licensed contractors, this work cannot be done by volunteers.  Once the electrical, plumbing, fire suppression and HVAC are restored, we will work to make it look and feel like a home.  This is not a shelter, a clinic, or even a Rehab facility. Base Camp Lindsey will be home to each Veteran in residence until they are able to regain their independence and find stable housing outside of our building.  None of this is inexpensive and all financial assistance is appreciated and necessary.

Where does my donation go?

Unless you indicate otherwise, all donations are assigned to the general construction fund and operational costs such as insurance and security.

Operations Fund

Funds will be used to provide assistance to our Veterans with limited services to include the provision of bus passes, food and hygeine products, as well as helping them obtain birth certificates and ID's that are vital to finding employment and qualifying for housing and other assistance services.

General Construction

Our current budget is $2.3 million to restore the building.  This includes new windows and doors, flooring, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and ADA accommodations.

Sponsor a room

Individuals and organizations can choose to sponsor a room in the building.  If you sponsor a room you are a HUGE part of getting that room ready for its new resident.  Your team is able to do physical repairs to the room, design the space to include choosing the paint color from our paint choices, selecting the furniture and even setting up the room for its resident.  Your group will have a plaque outside the room to forever honor your sponsorship.

Furniture

Once construction is complete, we will need to furnish the building.  This will include 25 small Veteran apartments, 3 living areas, a dining room, classroom, laundry, kitchen, and a chapel.

Open the Doors

Opening the doors will involve stocking the kitchen and pantry with food and cooking equipment, linens for 25 beds, towels, hygeine products for 25 people, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, and other items to make the building feel like a home.
